We will update the site and Facebook when the next opportunity for community action is available.
The EPA contracts with a company to allow a community to receive a third-party review of Superfund plans. This program is called Technical Assistance Services for Communities (TASC). For Ringwood, the EPA has been using a company called Skeo for this purpose. Skeo has finished its review of the Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP) for OU2 (surface plan for the three main sites; O'Connor Disposal Area, Cannon Mine and Peter's Mine).
On Thursday, February 25, Skeo will present its TASC findings to the community. It is important to remember that the comments that are presented at the meeting are not officially put on the record as comments. It is up to the community to choose which comments it will submit. One overriding concern from many groups that has emerged is the lack of communication protocols to keep the local community up to date on the plans and possible changes.
The work is scheduled to begin in a matter of weeks. It is important that proper precautions are in place and followed to make sure the community does not suffer injury from this work.
To view the 17-page fact sheet, please use the below link. This fact sheet will give an overview of the Remedial Action Work Plan and recommend comments for the community to submit.
WARNING: It is a large pdf file.
The below link with generate a sample email to the EPA. We recommend you add your own comments to this email and delete any that you are not comfortable making. Unique emails are beneficial as they will not just be grouped together. If you are short on time, please use the sample and be sure to update your name at the end.
